Growing clones to feed humans with their organs. Its an amazing wonder that when we set out to do soemthing such as cloning for example, that feelings change in the process. To be more concie we have the idea that these clones, Tommy, Kathy and Ruth are soley and purposefuly created to keep other humans alive, by doing so the clones are organ donors. Yet feelings get in the way of the inital purpose and we find that feelings such as love can change everything. Clones falling in love with one another I suppose is an example of nature intertwined with science. The question raised do clones have souls? bring up I suppose does anything living contain a soul? The expression of art, who judges art to say what it represents and whats its value? Obviously in this case its the Hailsham but art has a beauty in it that may be different for every person. Just like the clones are seen and viewed differently by other around them. Love, art, science, creation, all seem create a unexpected variable that then alters everything. The clones even have names. If they are grown to give and die, should there be an acceptance because of their now new grown feelings and beliefs?
This movie is like I am Lengend only not as cool. Id rather see a disease cause people to turn into zombies then just die off. The black plague killed off many people I believe, so as out immune systems grow stronger and more tolerable to diesease, it seems that the viruses become stronger as well in order to compensate for the stronger immune defense. Spreading disease that ultimatley wipes out the majority of the population of the earth is like any other apocolypse. It is a means to start over again as we can only learn and grow stronger from the experience. Once again people who are living their lives somewhere else away from the initial incendent, becomes affected by the disease, only to prove that everyone is connected and no one is safe no matter how far you are away from what you feel danger can be.
Believing everything you hear on television and on the radio is ridiculous. Somehow, it is true that people who religiously listen to radio or watch televison feel that whatever they say is real. That putting atitiel on soemthing or naming something makes a siuation better. Jack feels that he should not be in harm becuase college professors do not go through such tragedy. The question raised i guess is should anyone be free from anything because of a title siuation or class. Communications and the media seem to also be manupulated by how many followers they get from their news story. So is it possible that the story is not a true reflection of the real. Also perception of what peopel see ontop of teh fact that they must report it may change parts of the story. When it comes to media and reporting, just like reading people must read between the lines and form their own ideas based on the usual incomplete information given to them. People need to use their own ideas to fill in the blanks as to what tehy hear. The media is not a authority, as well as a authority that knows everything. As for jack and what he sees as real and not, well he as been lsot in his own white cloud and cannot see clearly. He must make his own decsions for himself rather then have the media make it for him.
The end of all things. A very depressing movie the son and the father seek refuge while traveling to the coast. The remaining humans became cannibals and allowed themselves to become savages as they raped and murdered people for food. The world became grey, everything grey, ash snowed down to the ground as fires lashed out at any standing bare tree, the ocean was silver and the sky was dark with only shreaks of lightening. The fire that the father spoke of was the inner fire of the soul to never give up and never quit, one of the major themes of the story. The black man at the end took all their belongings and when caught, the father began to fill his mind with the same disease that the other savage group of men had, he took everything from the man living him stipped of all things. It was the son that saw the good in things which is what the father says leads to the end of all things. As long as you are feelign bad and thinking the bad, then you know you are live. But the son showed us that with faith and kindness that only with a ray of hope can things look up. The father never was able to see the good that arrived from all actions they made. Though he left his son with the most important virtues to live by, be good, keep the fire and never quit. When the son met the man at the end, it showed that keeping the path, the road, no matter what, can lead to something that was worth the hardship. As for the world, it was assumingly the humans that turned it to ash however it shows that when we start over, humans are the ones who rebuild what they destroyed.
The end to all mankind, Peter, Dwight, Moria, Mary, all just waiting to die. It was a very warm descriptive story up untill the end. Missions to look for survivors in radio contaminated areas. One of the best moments in the story was when Ralphie jumped ship and took off swimming toward the coast where his home town was. They found him on the submarines returning fishing in a small boat happier then ever. The captain did not mind and it was interesting to observe how the author made people to act when they knew the world was coming to an end. Many people went back to school to study , others kept on working. When people knew that they were going to die in a matter of months, it was interesting to see that people did not start to go crazy and savage like. They went on with their normal days even goign away on trips, fishing, racing. I guess it is the best thing to do, just approach each day the same with not worries. People had future plans that they really knew would never happen but made them anyway. The captain continued taking orders and giving orders even all the way to the end when he gave a dishonorable discharge for sailors being late and also no allowing alcohol on board. He also did not permit Moria to come on board while they went to sink the ship. Very disturbing end to teh story watching all the characters kill themselves off differently and calmly. Sick thing to think about but then again maybe its not. The whole world wiped out from nuclear bombs that we, humans made and used. We killed ourselves, the message of the story. Perhaps a prediction? It also showed how people who werent even involved in the war was affected. Two countries fought to the point of exstinction of the entire world.
Critical race theory is the overlapping discourses of race, power and law in the United States. When a person come to America froma ntoher country, his or her immgrant status is a reflection of race and depending on their race, the outcome may be better or for worse. Power comes from ones rights as an immigrant and how limited it may become once in a new envirment where others may not resepct your race. The laws of America could help or discourage immigrants in their process settling into a new country. It can liberate them or it can cage them. The role that a practitioner of critical theory plays is his or her stories that are created to shed light on these controversial or undeniable struggles. The writer,Pulitano, shares and illustrates how “Stroies, parables, chronicals and narratives are powerful means for destroying mindset—the bundle of presuppositions, received wisdoms, and shared understandings against a background of which legal and political discourse takes place.” It is further suggested that stories created by critical race theory writers may even save lives. Danticats writings about social and political oppression are monuments to life as they show resitance and means to find ways to survive. Hope is but a ray yet it stains the minds of those seeking refuge and a new way. This is a meaningful approach to addressing struggling issues because these stories though are fictious underscore a real world of horror. It is real and within these stories that may not actually be historic, these situations however are. Looking back at ones past and understanding ones cultural identity when immigranting to The United States is an image that those from Domincian Republic do not have. A past that is always changing and being destroyed and rebuilt holds no monumental significance to them only that they may have survived it. If searching for a home is the Dominicans only option, then America may be the only shot of opportuniy. How can America offer a home to an immigrant and at the sametime manage to help the homes that already exist for those native? It seems that revolution in haiti only inspires new Tyrants rather then new solutions. Critical Race theory hones in on ones desperate situation and how no options lead to circumstances of death or pain. The writer creates life thorugh imagined characters and faves harship with belief in hope.
A world ontop of a world ontop of a world. USing other peoples identities in different times messes with peoples existances. The edge of the world, simulated people, all interaqcting with one another not knowing that thier world is watched and made up by other people. Completely ridiculous, other then the thought which is mind blowing, it really just has people wondering what else is out there, is this life real, questions to which no one while living will know. Baes on the idea that reality as we know it may not actually be reality, for me is something I certainly would not look further into. Creating such fantacy’s are very imaginitive and defintetly think outside the box, but having people create simulations to experience something that is not real is really serves no purpose. It is a false stimulation of the mind and tricks your mind. Once Hall realized thathis life was not real, it seemed to me that he did not really care much about anything, other then mrs. fuller. He lost his will to value things he once valued. However I would not think in any way that this movie may byany chance serve as to what may come and introduce an idea that may be possible. Thinking about what the movie presents would not change my view on life or even have me think in a different persepective. For the movie itself is to entertain and being that the simulation in the movie was meant to entertain to some degree, desire to feed a hunger of stimulating yourself is selfish and problematic given the degree of which you mean to fufill it. New innovation happen are created everyday but thinking about technology and how humans will survive on it in the future is unpredictable and unforseeable, one can imagine but that about it.
The reader is presented right away with a a tragedy of medical illness. As Danitcat flies to New York from haiti with her father, the plot introduces its first conflict. As one person is ill another person is carrying life. As information is concealed from other chacarters the exploration of life in Haiti is not much all different then Alvarez’s description. Churches caught on fire, genocide everywhere and yet hope remains in the survival of those who seek it. A family that is closely nitted, much comfort is lost when we go back through Danticats fathers upbringing. The delay of the airplane suspends her time waiting and while waiting she decides to tell her friend about her pregnancy as well as her fathers illness. The friends humor of bad news causes her to responde that “we’re all dying.” which triggers Danicat memory of her uncle who once said “maybe we’re all dying, one breath at a time.” The constant struggle for a live of happiness is shaded by the negativety around the family. Not only are the struggles outside of homes but also within them making hope seem distant and unreachable.
It seems that Avatar disrupts the flow of our current readings and movies we have watched when considering how much technology is becoming a part of humans. The interesting aspect about Avatar is how humans use advanced technology to transport their souls into another creation. Now one may argue that this is an interpretation of post humanism however when we look closer at involves in the characters such as Jake sully, we begin to realize that through the superior capabilities of technology, it is the great desire to grow closer to nature. Jake Sully falls in love with not only Naterey but the forest. So as we view Jaks as a post human who is fullfilling a need to get away from human form, we must not undermine what he is leaving behind. It is because of humans that decectrated Earth, the reason they have come to this new richley inhabitited planet is to consume more resources and energies to keep human living alive. However we see through the Naivie tribe that the resources and species exisit through the balance of life. This includes giving energy back after borrowing it to live. Viewers may see Avatar as humans advancing technology to become other species, as they may me true, it is the desire to go back to the primitive state at which humans once were and coexist with nature rather then conquer it. Jake represents the mediator between the humans and indigenious species. The transition he makes into the avatar represents the search for human idenity and it is through the Naivi that we find ourselves looking back at nature and realizing how we missed out of what life has to offer.
Alvarez and Mario Vargas together has stripped down the Dominican corruption and its corrosive control over the people. In one story we have contact with Trujillo directly as an in the other story we have what the trickle down affect from his actions. “In the time of the butterflies”we can see Trujillo make is presence strongly as he has dialogue and interacts with the characters. In “the farming of Bones” we can see how the world around trujillo has affected society without actually having trujillo interacting with the characters. As different focuses in the stories reveal the genocide, murders, rebellion, and the fall of Trujillo, we can gather the different sides of information to create inour own minds a better understanding and image of what life was like under such totalitarian rule. Compared to Hitler and Stalin, the idea killing off those who are not “pure” in the eyes of trujillo, and creating a new society a stronger soceity of evil, the rise of tyranny can be achieved. With hope from heros like the Mirabal sisters, “the sisters of legend,” it gives those who rebel a fighting chance to remember the ideas and visions of those who fought and died for right of liberty alive. While we see the dark areas of history, we also see the light that comes from it by the acts of couragess men and women. These stories are show the horrors of dictators and war, they also show how good can prevail by using a ray of hope and the will to act against what is all to be evil.
